The Ticknall potters made a variety of wares.
The village was a major producer of Midland Purple wares which
have been found on all the early sites; some are decorated.
It also specialised in good quality plain and finely decorated
Cistercian wares. The everyday wares could be 'white' (actually
yellow), red and black wares; all lead glazed. There is evidence
that slip and mottled wares were produced and one or two later
potters experimented with creamware although this was not
a success.
